Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries currently offered to the public. However, there are a number of patients who do not wish to undergo any kind of surgical procedure to reduce fat and they choose to have a non-invasive, or non-surgical, liposuction treatment.
Non-invasive liposuction uses radiofrequencies, ultrasound, laser energy or extreme cold to get rid of fat without the use of incisions or injections. The device of choice is directly applied to the skin to achieve results that are more subtle than traditional surgical liposuction. Even though the results are not as pronounced as traditional liposuction, non-invasive methods offer faster healing as well as less overall risks. Patients should not expect to see a reduction of more than 25% of the fat in the treated areas when undergoing non-surgical liposuction. Also, there is no additional skin contracture when using non-invasive liposuction methods.
Some of the most popular non-invasive options include:
- CoolSculpting – A good option for patients near their target weight who still want to see some reduction in smaller areas of fat on the thighs, abdomen and hips. The treatment uses a cryolipolysis device to cool down any fat cells that are not wanted to the point that they die without negatively affecting the surrounding tissues. After the fat cells die, they are flushed out of the body over the following weeks. In general, it takes 3 months to see final results.
- truSculpt – This treatment uses radio frequency technology to get rid of fat cells located on the abdomen, hips, buttocks and thighs. It normally takes a couple of treatments to see any noticeable results.
- Zerona – This cold laser is used to target fat cells that are superficial. After being targeted, this storage form of fat leaks out and flushes out of the system of the patient. In turn, this results in a shrinking of the fat cells. The results are usually visible within several weeks.
There are a number of non-invasive liposuction devices on the market for patients to choose from when deciding to have a non-surgical treatment. Some of the device names (besides the ones listed above) include SculpSure, Curve, Strawberry, Thermage, Ultrashape and I-Lipo.
When it comes to the cost for non-invasive liposuction, the cost varies depending on the total amount of area being treated as well as the number of treatments performed to achieve the desired results. Patients should consult with their doctor to get a better idea of the price difference between a single treatment, multiple treatments and the cost for each device.
